GMA delivers two new shows: One is sure, the other in doubt

Manny Pacquiao goes back to TV hosting on "Manny Pacquiao featuring Sport Science."

Manny Pacquiao goes back to TV hosting on “Manny Pacquiao featuring Sport Science.”

WITH HECTIC SCHEDULE of training leading to another bout against the undefeated, young American boxer Chris Algieri this November, Manny Pacquiao set back to return to GMA as the host of his eponymous sports show featuring ESPN’s Sports Science, come September 14.

The upcoming educational show will be part of the Sunday morning educational block on the Kapuso Network with Drew Arellano’s AHA! and Chris Tiu’s iBILIB. The incoming program will replace Kap’s Amazing Stories hosted by Sen. Bong Revilla, whose reputation was ruined by the PDAF scam and is currently in jail since last June.

The non-boxing roles on TV of the 35-year-old jack-of-all-trades of Sarangani include:

  • Hosting an evening variety game show “Manny Many Prizes,”
  • Co-starring with Marian Rivera on his sole sitcom, “Show Me Da Manny,” and
  • Collaborating with then-Ateneo (now Rain or Shine Elasto Painters) basketball player Chris Tiu on “Pinoy Records.”

With Pacquiao’s confirmed delivery, comes another show with a doubt of pilot airing.

Tom Rodriguez is set to host “Don’t Lose the Money.” The show still has no date of first airing, as of press time.

For the first time in few years, the Kapuso Network acquired a new game show franchise from RTL Germany. The new game show, Don’t Lose the Money, will be hosted by Tom Rodriguez, well-known for his role as Vincent Soriano on the most controversial and discussed teleserye of 2013, My Husband’s Lover.

The mechanics of the game is much simple: two teams with four contestants each must take grueling physical challenges. The team who finishes effectively and efficiently will earn a corresponding amounts. The most money the team earns will take home the dough.

The last time GMA grabbed any franchise rights (overall) was in 2009 with Hole in the Wall from Japan, hosted by Yaya and Angelina (portrayed by Michael V. and Ogie Alcasid) of the Spoiled Brat skit of Bubble Gang. The last comprehensive game show franchise once hold by the Kapuso Network was Family Feud under Richard Gomez.

The date of the new game show is yet to be announced.

With Seven’s new shows up for grabs, one confirmed and one in doubt, will GMA’s critics be satisfied or remain unconscionable? Keep an eye on those dates and subsequent press releases.

Update (September 1): Don’t Lose the Money will be shown on September 22.

  1. Seriously, Pacquiao is on ‘burnout alert’. Let’s see if his extra-curriculars will be his undoing once he faces Chris Algieri in November.

  2. Don’t Lose The Money, a creation of the Shine Group, was first broadcast in Germany as “Cash Crash.” GMA is maybe the first country to start its version of the game show as a full series instead of a one-off pilot outside of Germany. (The US version still has no set date for its first season to air.) The Philippine version of Don’t Lose the Money’s first episode will have some StarStruck alumni as contestants. I think the show should be placed on a weekend primetime slot.
As for MP, Manny Pacquiao’s latest show on GMA, I think he had taped a month or some more full of episodes in advance. MP will replace the temporary block of superhero movies.

    1. Thanks for the information about DLTM. But still, we do not know about the set date.

If the said show replace Celebrity Bluff, most Kapuso loyalists will protest that move but it is “worth a try” by critics. If it is aired on weekdays before 24 Oras like Family Feud or Hole in the Wall a few years ago, it can be better or worse depending on the rival’s output and your opinion.

Of Pacman, the taping follows what Sen. Bong Revilla did on Kap’s Amazing Stories before he was summoned by an arrest order. The show is assured that it is based on the structure of the predecessor program.
